Flora, Fauna & Wildlife A unique collection of rare plants, birds and marine life share a habitat of exceptional beauty on this World Heritage Listed island. Wander the native forests of grand banyan trees and lush kentia palms to see the flightless woodhen, only recently rescued from the verge of extinction. Thousands of seabirds visit the islands’ rocky outcrops and brightly coloured marine life inhabit the turquoise lagoon. Hand feed the fish at Ned’s Beach and snorkel with the green turtles in North Bay.
Hiking & Walking More than 20km of marked tracks traverse the island: quiet strolls though the cool palm forests and marine walks along Middle Beach’s rock platforms and pools. The heart racing guided ascent of Mt Gower (875m – 8 km return walk from sea to summit) is regarded as one of the best one-day walks in the World and is rewarded with spectacular views over the island and its turquoise lagoon. Return to Capella to enjoy a soothing “Gower Foot Therapy” at Capella Spa and a sumptuous dinner gazing back up at the summit conquered.
Honeymoons Aptly located above the picturesque ‘Lovers Bay’, Capella Lodge is the perfect retreat for honeymooners. Enjoy a cocktail on one of the outdoor lounges watching the sun sink into the South Pacific or take a dip into your private plunge spa for two (Lidgbird Suite).
Ultimate Relaxation Lord Howe Island offers the ultimate escape: there is no mobile phone reception, cars give way to bicycles as the main mode of transport and the local golf club operates an honesty box system for their green fees. After a day exploring the island’s simple pleasures, relax on your private day bed cooled by the tropical breezes and soothed by the sounds of the ocean.
